How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
"Throughout the duration of the whole project I have had to use a litany of different technologies to help me, or to present my work. Including blogger, Prezi, Scoop it, Photoshop, Emzae, powtoon, slide share and adobe premiere pro.
I found
blogger useful as I could plan my work out on the blog flow by setting the time
and date of page being posted; this also made it easier to navigate my way back
to a page if I needed to review . i used blogger exclusively to post all of my coursework
on; this was very useful as erstwhile research has come in handy for revision. The
collation of all my work on one easily traversable and comprehensible site is
most advantageous. Conversely, when uploading images it was limited. It was
also limited when uploading videos, as it takes a considerable amount of time
to complete and the site even refused to up load some videos. This became very restrictive
and tiresome. So I had to use different
technologies to upload videos to, to then imbed them in blogger. For this I used
YouTube. YouTube is a web 2.0 site for uploading videos to. Even though this
site made me able to use videos it was also extremely sluggish and this was a
large hold back.
To present
my work I used many different sites, after researching a list, including Prezi.
Prezi is one of my most used presentation sites; this site is perfect for group
work as it is easy to use, can have a group of people working on it a one time
and looks very clear and engaging. There is also an element of interaction with
Prezi as you can imbed videos to it and select from an array of striking
templates. Although this program has obvious greatness the program can be
rather hard to control when zooming in and out. It is also limiting to the transition
effects and fonts. Finally, Prezi (I feel) is over used; it’s become very common
to use this software.
The camera
we used to film our music video was a Nikon 1 j 1, this was the property of
Ben, one of the members on our group. We used this camera because it produced a
very clear and high quality shot, and this came in handy for our music video because
many of our shots were very detailed and effervescent. A lower resolution
camera would not pick up these qualities. The camera also stood easily on a tripod
for stability. A downside of using Bens camera was that we could only use it
when ben was available so it made it a little limiting as it was a struggle to
find a time when everyone was free.
We used Adobe
premiere pro to edit the shots of the music video and arrange them so they were
chronological to our storyline and that they cut to the beat witch appeared to
be a common convention of music videos. This technology proved to be very useful
as it was rather simple and we were able to get used to it. We encountered a few
complications with Premier pro along the way as we couldn’t work out how to
load it completely but we were also able to overcome this glitch.
I used
adobe Photoshop to edit images and create the digipak and print advert. This
was the most useful of all of the technologies that I used as it was
beautifully easy and I came to be well acquainted with it very swiftly. Others
found this software rigid and restrictive but found the use of layers and
layout very helpful. Although I got on very well with this software it did have
only a selection of filters I could use on my images which fits in with the technological
determinism theory that states that society's technology drives the development
of its social structure and cultural values. This fits in as I had to settle
for what the software gave me in the way of editing tools and filters; this modified
what my work ended up to look like.
Overall the
technologies that I have used in the construction, research, planning and evaluation
periods of my work have proved to be vital. They have meant that I could be as artistic
as I wanted and present in a strong and proficient way."
